Toby Purser conducts EAChO

Vaughan Williams, Mahler & Beethoven

The East Anglia Chamber Orchestra is delighted to return to the West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge with another attractive and demanding programme.

Under the baton of the talented Toby Purser, the concert will begin with the atmospheric and beautiful Symphony No.5 by Vaughan Williams. This work was composed in 1943 and represents a return to the gentler style of the earlier Pastoral Symphony.

Following the interval, EAChO will perform the Adagietto from Symphony No 5 by Gustav Mahler, written for strings and harp, and made famous by its use in Visconti’s film masterpiece Death in Venice.

The concert concludes with Beethoven’s truly joyous Piano Concerto No.3. This was premiered at the same time as his 2nd Symphony with the composer as the soloist. We are very excited to welcome back the fabulous pianist Thomas Kelly, as our soloist. He attained ABRSM Grade 8 with distinction at the age of 8, studied at the Purcell School of Music, is The Britten Fellow at the Royal College, and has won first prizes at international competitions.

Join us for a wonderful evening of marvellous music-making.
